Type of Competition

The competition is intended for interpreters of the music by the Israeli-Swiss composer Yehoshua Lakner (1924-2003), who was born in Slovakia. The competition will be held online by means of video-recordings produced by the candidates and sent to the director of the competition. 

Terms and Conditions

The competition is open for:

  • players of the instruments of piano, viola, and clarinet (bass clarinet),  who are citizens of either Switzerland, Israel or Slovakia
  • candidates up to an age of 40 years

The candidate must make a videorecording of one of the following solo pieces by Yehoshua Lakner:

  • Five Birthdays for Piano
  • Alef-Beth-Gimmel for Piano
  • Movement in F for Piano
  • Fermatas for Piano
  • Improvisation für Viola
  • Piece for Horak, Bass Clarinet

The scores for all the pieces are available in digital by Israel Music Institute: E-mail: imi.org.il@gmail.com
The recording must be uploaded to YouTube and sent to the director of the competition, see registration.
The videorecording must be live, however minimal editing is permitted.

Registration

The videorecording published on YouTube must be sent also to the Yehoshua & Margrit Lakner Foundation

via WeTransfer, DropBox or another standard web platform.

The following details must be sent to the same email address:

  • copy of official ID showing the name, age and nationality of the candidate
  • CV with details and experience as a musician (in English)
  • Diplom or Certificate of music studies, with name of teachers (English)
  • high-resolution photo

There is no registration fee. Participation in the competition is free of charge.

Procedure

The first step will entail checking whether the application is complete.

Then the qualification will be verified along with the registered video. (The video must be produced by the person, who is listed in the registration, and the videorecording has to be one of the qualified pieces by Yehoshua Lakner.)

Only complete applications will be considered.

The candidates will be notified via email whether their application can be accepted for the competition or not.

Next the Jury will evaluate the videorecordings and decide upon awarding the prizes.

The winner of the first price must make a commitment to the Foundation to play within three years after having received the price at least one solo piece by Yehoshua Lakner in concert and to send the concert program to the Foundation.
